Nearly fifteen years ago when I was starting my office, I knew the value that computerizing my office would offer me. I was a little disappointed to find that most of the software that was available was unusable.

• There were packages for medical offices. These were fine for billing, but totally unusable for tracking recalls, hearing aid purchases, hearing aid warranties, ...etc... The price for this software ranged from $3000.00 to $10,000.00.
• There were commercial accounting packages. These were fine for billing, but also totally unusable for tracking recalls, hearing aid purchases, hearing aid warranties, ....etc. These packages were more affordable, priced at under $1,000.00.
• There were a few packages directly targeted to hearing aid offices. These software programs were not strong in accounting and in managing hearing aids. They were also inflexible. If I wanted a business logo on the receipts, there would be an extra programming charge. If I wanted to change the layout of a screen to bigger fonts an extra programming charge would be incurred. These software packages also had hefty price tags.

I was committed to using a computerized program for billing, marketing, and patient tracking. I needed a software package that was appropriate and affordable. I was not a computer programmer and did not want to become one. I turned to a new computer program called FileMaker. FileMaker offered me the ability to customize software to meet the needs of my practice. In 1993, this program was released for Windows. Since then I have expanded the Hearing Software to include three products: Hearing Office Lite, Hearing Office Pro, and Industrial Records.

I knew that I had found the perfect platform for the development of a comprehensive and affordable group of software solutions for hearing care practices. The use of this software in my busy practice has simplified the daily operation, enhanced the service level and professionalism displayed to my patients, and allowed me to successfully grow and manage the marketing and business operations of my office. I enjoy helping people with hearing loss more than anything that I have ever done in my life. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. I love my profession.
